Gastroenterology

Improve issues with your
digestive system.

Our team will work with you to find the right treatment options.

Expert treatment and ongoing support from Cookeville Regional’s gastroenterology specialists can help improve issues with your digestive system.

The digestive system is a complex group of organs that includes the esophagus, stomach, pancreas, gallbladder, intestines and liver. Understanding the conditions that can affect that delicate system can be complicated.

Our team will work with you to find the right treatment options. Our collaborative approach provides you with education to help you manage your condition and prevent new digestive problems.

The team of gastroenterologists at Cookeville Regional Medical Center will work with you to identify and treat those issues such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), liver disease, ulcers, lactose intolerance, heartburn, Chron’s disease, ulcerative colitis, concerns of the gastrointestinal tract and many others.

Cookeville Regional is the only facility in the Upper Cumberland offering endoscopic ultrasound (EUS), a minimally invasive procedure where the abdominal organs are accessed through the rectum or mouth and scoped with a camera and ultrasound, enabling the doctor to look further at the structures outside of the area.

Another procedure used to diagnose and treat problems in the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas is called Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP). It is done while the patient is asleep and the physician using an ERCP scope. The most common things treated with this procedure as stones blocking the common bile ducts, bile leaking from the bile duct, blockage of the pancreatic duct from a stone causing acute pancreatitis, infections in the bile duct and blockage from a tumor.

Open access colonoscopy questionnaire

About the program
Cookeville Regional Gastroenterology Associates has developed a program which allows healthy individuals to schedule screening colonoscopy without the need for an office visit before the procedure. If your physician has suggested that you have a colonoscopy, you may qualify for this program. Of course not all patients will be able to safely undergo a colonoscopy without more detailed evaluation of their health history and their risks for the procedure. If that is the case for you, we will help you schedule an office visit so that a physician can review your medical history, assess your current condition and determine how to best meet your health needs. Someone from our office will contact you with follow-up questions prior to scheduling your procedure.
