New urologist Joins Cookeville Regional

Urologist Rick Smith, MD, has joined the staff at Cookeville Regional Medical Center and Cookeville Regional Medical Group.  He will be working with fellow urologist Dr. Lee Moore at CRMG Upper Cumberland Urology Associates located at 320 North Oak Avenue.

Board certified in urology in 1990, Dr. Smith has over 32 years’ experience in treating patients with urologic conditions. He comes to Cookeville from Memphis where he practiced for more than 27 years and served as chief of surgery and medical staff president at St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett, Tennessee. For 10 years, he served as the medical director of the Urocenter – a urology only surgery center.

He graduated from University of Memphis in 1979 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1983 with his MD. While a senior student, he attended the University of Tanta Medical School in Tanta, Egypt, where he received a certificate of tropical medicine. His residency in general surgery and urology at University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis started in 1983 and was completed in June of 1988.

Dr. Smith is married with two adult children, no grandchildren at present. His hobbies include golf and woodworking. He has a special interest in biblical studies and presently teaches on the history of the church, from the apostolic times to present.
