New physicians and new procedures are among the many innovative events happening at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
The most notable is the growth of the urology team – and its re-entrance into robotic surgery procedures.
“The 3D capabilities, the optics and the microscopic instruments really give surgeons the precision that results in faster healing times and shorter hospital stays,” said Dr. Robert Parham, the newest urologist to join the Upper Cumberland Urology group.
The da Vinci robotic surgery program at Cookeville Regional has come a long way since it was introduced in 2007.
This is also the same time Parham was trained in it.
The da Vinci is not only utilized in urology, but gynecology, urogynecology, ear-nose-throat, cardiac, thoracic procedures.
With Parham’s arrival, there will be new services offered to patients of the Upper Cumberland.
He will be offering treatments for erectile dysfunction, including the use of penile implants, treatments for male urinary incontinence utilizing artificial sphincters and male slings.
He also will offer Bulkamid, an alternative to mesh for female incontinence.
He is also trained in other procedures, such as cryosurgery for prostate and kidney cancers, photovaporization of the prostate using GreenLight laser, Resum water vapor therapy to treat the symptoms of enlarged prostates, tension free vaginal tape for female stress urinary incontinence and Optilume Stricture Treatment for stricture or narrowing of the male urethra.
In addition to growth in the urology practice, OB/GYN Associates has partnered with Diana Health, a network of women’s health practices. The practice is growing with the addition of new OB/GYNs and midwives.
This partnership will bring 24-hour labor services into the hospital.
In addition to that benefit to the hospital, they offer well woman visits, preconception and family planning, general gynecological care, mental health, wellness coaching and classes and events.
“Exciting things are happening at Cookeville Regional,” said Paul Korth, Cookeville Regional CEO. “We’re constantly growing and moving forward in an effort to give the best healthcare to the residents of the Upper Cumberland.”
