Introducing the Tennessee Robotic Institute at Cookeville Regional Medical Center (CRMC), a team of surgeons setting a new standard in robotic surgery.  For over 14 years, CRMC has been at the forefront of robotic-assisted procedures, and the institute now serves as the home to some of the most experienced robotic surgeons in the region and state.

“The Tennessee Robotic Institute at Cookeville Regional is the benchmark for excellence in robotic surgery,” said Dr. Charles T. Huddleston, general surgeon and chair of the robotics committee at CRMC. “This was a long-held vision for Dr. Bert Geer, who has been a tremendous leader and advocate for the robotic program. It is exciting for all of us robotic surgeons to see this come to life.”

“When someone is considering robotic surgery, they want the best. They want to know if their surgeon has performed a high volume of cases, has satisfied patients, and maintains low readmission, infection, and complication rates. The Tennessee Robotic Institute at Cookeville Regional upholds these rigorous standards, ensuring top-tier care for our patients.”

Since the program’s inception, CRMC has performed over 7,000 robotic surgeries and operates three da Vinci robotic surgical systems, including the latest model, the da Vinci S (DV5). In the first decade of the robotics program, CRMC performed 2,750 robotic procedures. Today, the hospital has completed more than 4,250 robotic surgeries across seven medical specialties:

  • Heart
  • Bariatric
  • Urology
  • Ear, Nose, and Throat
  • General Surgery
  • Gynecology/Urogynecology
  • Thoracic

“We have seen a growing desire for robotic surgery, and we genuinely have some of the best robotic surgeons. Patients also want less blood loss and quicker recovery times, and robotic surgery gives them that,” said Buffy Key, CEO at Cookeville Regional. Our medical center is committed to the robotics program and is proud to have three robotic surgical systems to support our caseload, reinforcing our dedication to innovation and high-quality patient care.”
