Cookeville Regional Named Top 100 Hospital for Two Consecutive Years

Cookeville, TN - Cookeville Regional was this week named one of the nation's 100 Top Hospitals® by Thomson Healthcare, a leading provider of information and solutions to improve the cost and quality of healthcare. The award recognizes hospitals that have achieved excellence in clinical outcomes, patient safety, financial performance, and efficiency. This is the second consecutive year that Cookeville Regional has been recognized with this honor. If all hospitals had performed at the level of these leading hospitals on the eight patient safety measures studied, they would have saved $253 million and 7,914 lives during the time period the study examined. The 2007 Thomson 100 Top Hospitals: National Benchmarks for Success study appears in the March 17 edition of Modern Healthcare magazine. Cookeville Regional has also been the recipient of Thomson's 100 Top Hospitals for Performance Improvement for two consecutive years. In addition, Cookeville Regional received several national and statewide accolades from HealthGrades for 2008 including:

« Distinguished Hospital Award for Overall Clinical Excellence in 2007, placing Cookeville Regional Medical Center in the top 5% of hospitals nationwide
« #1 in Tennessee and Recipient of Vascular Surgery Excellence Award (Top 5% in Nation) three years in a row
« Top 5% in the Nation for Spinal Surgery and Ranked Among the Top 3 in Tennessee for Spinal Surgery for two years in a row
« Ranked Among the Best in Tennessee for two years in a row in Cardiac Services, Orthopedics, and Gastrointestinal Services
« Received the highest possible rating for treatment of COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) for five years in a row

Cookeville Regional also consistently ranks among the Top 25 percent of hospitals in the nation in patient satisfaction as measured by Press, Ganey.

Cookeville Regional continues to expand both its facilities and its services. Construction on a new six-story North Patient Tower is expected to be completed later this year. The new tower will include:
« a new Cancer Center that will be three times larger than the current facility
« all private patient rooms
« a new and expanded Intensive Care Unit
« and many more facility improvements to serve both the patients and their families.
