New DaVinci Robot setting surgical standard at CRMC
In July 2007, Cookeville Regional brought in one of the most advanced surgical tools ever developed: the daVinci Surgical System. It’s a robotic device that enhances the skills of our nationally recognized surgeons, allowing them to perform complex and delicate procedures through tiny incisions. The smaller entry points means less scarring and faster recovery times for patients, all while still receiving the highest level of care at Cookeville Regional.
The daVinci is used for cardiothoracic, urologic and other general surgeries. Dr. Lee Moore (urologic surgery), Dr. Lewis Wilson (cardiovascular and thoracic surgery), Dr. James Fonger (cardiovascular and thoracic surgery) and Dr. Bert Geer (OB/GYN surgery) have dedicated hundreds of hours training on this revolutionary medical device. While there are daVinci systems at some of the metro hospitals in Tennessee, Cookeville Regional is one of the few using it for open-heart surgeries. It’s another example of living proof that CRMC is continuing to make great strides as an award-winning, nationally recognized healthcare facility.
Some of the benefits for patients include:
- Significantly less pain
- Less blood loss
- Less scarring
- Shorter recovery times
- A faster return to normal daily activities
- In many cases, better clinical outcomes
