Description:

This position is responsible for performing a wide range of social  services in the home health department in accordance with the hospital mission and objectives.  Main functions of the position are to assist patients and their families in addressing social, emotional, and economic issues associated with illness or injury.  Crisis intervention, discharge planning, continuity of care, financial assistance, and referrals to community resources while working with the interdisciplinary team. Geriatric, adult and adolescent patients are served.

 

1.  EDUCATION:  BS degree in social work or an equivalent degree required but Masters preferred.

Description:

The Physical Therapy Assistant works under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist to carry out physical therapy programs in the hospital for inpatients or outpatients, to facilitate the rehabilitation of the mentally or physically handicapped.  The staff PTA provides direct patient focused care to include the implementation of treatment plans designed by the PT and quality treatment to meet short and long term goals determined by the PT according to the patient’s needs. The staff PTA may work with any /all patients of the following age groups based upon individual responsibility, training, and competency:  Infants (age 0-18 months), Children (age 19 months-12 years), Adolescents (age 13 years –17 years), Adults (age 18 years – 64 years), and Geriatrics (age 65+ years).  All PT’s are required to have competency for adolescent, adult, and geriatric age groups.  Staff who will work with children or infants less than 13 years will require specific training and competencies demonstrated prior to working with pediatrics.   The staff PTA also assists the director of the department in quality assurance and improvement activities and the overall operation of the physical therapy department.  The PTA is required to perform the professional duties and standards of care as specified by the American Physical Therapy Association, state and federal laws and regulations, and TJC standards.

EDUCATION:

Associates degree from accredited PT assistant program.  Must be able to read and write English.

 

EXPERIENCE:

New graduate is acceptable.  Candidate must have current licensure or be eligible to apply for licensure in the state of Tennessee.

 

SKILLS:

a.  Candidate needs to have effective oral and written communication skills with all age groups and educational levels.
