Physician Recruitment

CRMC Aggressively Seeks Top Physicians

Cookeville Regional is actively involved in ongoing efforts to recruit the best physicians from across the nation. Because of this, the hospital's staff — and the specialties it is able to offer — are continuing to grow. The most recent additions to the CRMC staff include pediatric and adult hospitalists, an endocrinologist and a nephrologist. With these new additions, the hospital's active medical staff numbers more than 155, two-thirds of whom are specialists.

"From our perspective, we're making huge strides," said Dr. Menachem Langer, Cookeville Regional CEO. "It's becoming more and more challenging for rural locations to attract good, talented physicians who want to stay in the community. We're taking the necessary measures to find the appropriate candidates that want to live here, fit in here and hopefully stay for a long time."

CRMC posts positions on its website and on a national job posting board and also occasionally enlists the services of recruiting firms. For physicians who express interest, the hospital conducts phone and in-person interviews and familiarizes the prospect with the community, which many doctors find appealing.

"What we found in recruiting, the most important thing is having the right fit," Langer said. "There's a fine balance between the quality of life and the money. Today, more and more physicians are choosing a lifestyle over financial packages."

The hospital is now actively searching for a gastrointestinal physician, as well as a cardiologist and a neurologist, and will continue to expand as needed to offer state-of-the-art health care to Upper Cumberland residents.
