Cookeville Regional Renovates and Expands Obstetrics Department

In September 2010, Cookeville Regional completed a multi-million dollar renovation and expansion of its obstetrics department. The expanded unit now has 12 labor-delivery-recovery (LDR) rooms and six observation beds that are all private rooms.

The nursery has doubled in size, with special facilities dedicated to intermediate newborn care for those babies needing more advanced services and treatment. In addition to private post-partum rooms, The Birthing Center also includes cesarean surgical suites and is equipped to handle any complications that may arise during labor that require more complex care.

Delivering close to 1,600 babies per year, The Birthing Center focuses on patient needs by providing private rooms with home-like atmospheres. Natural childbirth options are also available and a lactation consultant is available for new mothers who wish to breastfeed.
